Silk was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. Ilkay is the mother of Peter who is an educator as well as a leading actress and playwright. Peter was educated at St. Thomas University. The earliest memories of Anna included going to rehearsals and watching her mother perform. Silk featured in a number of commercials while she was young. She graduated with a Bachelors degree in Arts in the field of theater at St. Thomas University.
